Career Opportunities

The CQU Bachelor of Business course will prepare you for a career in marketing, general management, human resource management, public relations, property, and accounting - as well as providing an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in managing sustainable organisations. The degree provides the essential knowledge, skills and opportunities for personal development you will need to broaden your opportunities and build the foundations of your career.

Accounting Major and Professional Accounting Minor

Upon successful completion of this course with the Accounting Major and the Professional Accounting Minor, you will be able to apply for admission to either CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Property Major

The Australian Property Institute (API) has accredited this course as providing the educational requirements necessary to apply for certification to practice as a Certified Property Practitioner (CPP).

You can apply to the API for certification after completing the required Approved Professional Experience.

You will complete the following seven core units:

  • MGMT11169 Business Analytics
  • FINC11002 Financial Literacy for Business
  • LAWS11030 Foundations of Business Law
  • MGMT11109 Introduction to Business
  • MRKT11029 Marketing Fundamentals
  • HRMT11011 Human Resource Management
  • BUSN13004 Professional Practice and Experience.

You will also choose one of the following units:

  • BUSN11016 Introduction to Study and Professional Practice
  • BUSN11030 Academic and Digital Literacy in Higher Education.

Accounting Major

The Accounting Major consists of the following eight units.

If you would like to study both the Accounting and Financial Planning Majors, there is a common unit between these two majors: LAWS19033 Taxation Law and Practice A. This means that in the Financial Planning Major, instead of studying LAWS19033, you will study FINC19014 Property Investment and Finance.

Upon successfully completing this course with the Accounting Major and the Professional Accounting Minor, you will be able to apply for admission to either CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. The Professional Accounting Minor cannot be undertaken independently of the Accounting Major.

This major is available in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or online. 

Human Resource Management Minor

The Human Resource Management Minor consists of the following four units.

In this minor, you will gain exposure to the core functions of talent recruitment and retention. You will also develop insight into conflict and negotiation as well as learn perspectives on change management within an organisation.

Professional Practice and Experience - BUSN13004

This unit offers students the opportunity to select from the following options subject to availability: - Work placement option. - Global experience option. - Project option for students already in the workplace.

Fees & Scholarships

Indicative First-Year Fee

The Indicative First-Year Fee is the approximate cost of enrolling in this course for one full-time academic year (eight units over two terms) for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and should be used as a guide only. Your actual fees may vary depending on the units you select to study and your study load. Check the Cost per Unit spreadsheet available on our Understanding Course Fees webpage

Fees are reviewed each year and are subject to change. Fee estimates for the following year are expected to be available in November each year.

Commonwealth Supported Places

This course has Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available, and as a domestic student, you'll be offered a CSP, provided you meet CSP eligibility requirements. CSPs are subsidised by the Australian Government, meaning you are only required to pay the student contribution rather than full tuition fees.

HECS-HELP Loan

You may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan if you are offered a CSP. HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists you in paying your student contributions. Provided you meet the HECS-HELP eligibility criteria, you may use HECS-HELP to defer part or all of your student contribution fees.

SSAF is charged in addition to your student contribution or tuition fees and is used to help enhance your study experience.
