Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s

Thanks to the Queensland Government, young Queenslanders can gain a qualification through free training for apprenticeships and traineeships.

Free apprenticeships for eligible under 25s will cover the cost of training fees for employers who have commenced a new apprentice or trainee, or already have an existing apprentice or trainee aged under 25, in a priority qualification. Your employer will pay your wages, and you might have to meet costs related to any uniform or other training resources.

To be eligible for the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be aged under 25 years prior to entering into a training contract (commencing or recommencing) for a qualification that is funded by the Department through Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s;
  • are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship qualification through this Program;
  • be no longer enrolled at school;
  • commence or recommence their apprenticeship or traineeship between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2027;
  • not currently be enrolled in a qualification; and
  • not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships within a 10-year period.

Students will be able to be funded for a maximum two government funded Apprenticeships/Traineeships across the Career Start, Career Boost Programs and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs).

Students can receive funding for only one apprenticeship or traineeship at a time. If two training contracts are registered at the same time, the contract with the earliest start date will qualify for funding, provided all other eligibility requirements are met.

This funding is subject to change. Please carefully consider your training options before committing to a training course, as this may exhaust your entitlement to further Queensland Government subsidised training.
